Be Still My Heart!

I have the most amazing, wonderful, lovely son in the whole world!!

He's a pretty smart little fella and he was quite interested in the painting project all last year. He wanted to know why I was painting so much. When I told him it was to raise money for some sick children he kind of nodded a bit and we weren't really sure how much he really understood.

This evening, on his way home from the grocery store with Chris, he told him that he wanted to save " a hundred money". They had been talking about money in terms of how much they spent at the store. My son mentioned the "hundred money" and that turned into a discussion of cents or dollars, and if it was dollars they got into how much you could buy for that. Chris mentioned enough food for the family for about a week, or a really fancy toy like a scooter or a bike. My son then said he was going to save his money for charity. Then he went on to talk about his "paper paintings" which are the paintings he's made mostly at daycare on the easel paper. He went on for a bit about saving the money from selling his paper paintings and giving it to charity. By the time they got home he proudly came in and told me he was saving his money from his paper paintings for charity just "like you Mommy". How awesome is that?? I think I was  half a second away from proud, happy, stupefied tears! He was paying attention this whole year and even if he only understands in his four-year-old way, he wanted to do something nice with the art he'd made. I could not be prouder of him!!

So... now the wheels are turning... I'm going to have a chat with his daycare teachers tomorrow and see what we can cook up. :) I see no reason to stifle this urge of his and I think it's a fabulous idea! Stay tuned!

For now, I will just bask in the lovely heart-warming glow that has taken over our house. :) Thank you to my son for wanting to spread some happy and for giving me some very close to home affirmation that this was all for something and it will continue to grow.

Updating Delay

Hey Everyone...

I know I haven't done my updating yet... sorry about that. We're quite busy at school these days and the kids keep me happily busy as well.

If there's a painting you like feel free to send me an email: joanne.arbuthnott@yahoo.ca to see if it's available. :)

My apologies if it isn't... I promise I will update things, um, eventually!

Otherwise, not too much is new... just plugging away at school... most of the big projects are done. One last big one coming up in the very near future! My partner and I have been devoting half our weekends to it for the past month or so... a lot of investment, but we're hoping it pays off. Apparently previous years' students have found jobs through their table clinic presentation and we're hoping to make a great impression. :)

The kids are doing great... and I hope you are all well and happy. Thanks for checking in from time to time and hope your 2012 is treating you very well indeed. Good night!!

Donation Time!!

First I'd like to thank everyone for reading this blog and supporting this adventure!! I have no doubt in my mind that this is a communal effort and all the money raised is thanks to everyone.

I'm very VERY pleased to say that not only did I meet my goal of $4000, but I exceeded it!! The Children's Wish Foundation will be receiving a donation of just over $4400!! I'm hoping to do that donation this week. :)

So... WOW! To me, that's a huge understatement. I am very excited that Olga Milosevich at CBC wants to have another on the radio chat about this project, so you just might here it on Information Morning and/or Mainstreet sometime in the near future. :) I hope this inspires some of you to spread some happy in your own way.

I'm sure I've said it before... I'm nothing special... just an ordinary person, middle of the road finances, a teensy bit strapped for time, mom, wife and student. If I can pull something this crazy off... well, then I'm sure just about everyone can do something. :) I hope you'll find it in your heart to give, share, create and donate in whatever way you can so that together we make this world a bit better for all.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for everything. My life, my heart and my soul has changed for the better this year and thanks for being part of it. Good night.
